Mayor of Birmingham, AL Randall Woodfin Endorses Dr. Everton Blair for Congress

GWINNETT COUNTY, GA – The contrast in Georgia’s 13th Congressional District is hard to ignore. As voters look for fresh, present, and accountable leadership, Dr. Everton Blair is continuing to build a broad and increasingly high-profile coalition of support. Former Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick was the first national-major elected official to endorse early in the race. Now, Mayor Randall Woodfin of Birmingham, Alabama, has joined that growing coalition, alongside national progressive voice and former Ohio State Sen. Nina Turner, in addition to Georgia lieutenant governor candidate and State Sen. Josh McLaurin.

Patrick, the former governor of Massachusetts, gave Blair an early national boost. Woodfin brings the backing of a sitting mayor from outside Georgia. Turner adds a nationally recognized progressive voice. McLaurin adds the support of a current Georgia state senator running statewide. Together, they reflect a campaign building real energy, not just around name recognition, but around who is actually ready to lead.

“Everton Blair is exactly the kind of leader Georgia’s 13th District needs in Congress right now. He’s not a politician who discovered education as a talking point. He taught in the classroom. He chaired a school board during a pandemic. He knows what it takes to show up for families because he’s been doing it his entire career.”

“I know what it looks like when a young leader from the South decides to stop waiting for permission and starts building. I see that in Everton. He didn’t wait his turn on the Gwinnett County Board of Education. He got elected at 26, built a Democratic majority, and delivered real results for students and working families,” said Mayor Randall Woodfin.

The South doesn’t need more representatives who play it safe. We need fighters who understand that education, affordability, and opportunity aren’t abstract policy debates. They’re the difference between a family making it and a family falling behind. Everton gets that because he’s lived it. I’m proud to endorse Everton Blair for Congress. GA-13 deserves a leader who’s ready to fight on Day One.”

Woodfin’s endorsement adds more force to a simple reality: while others in this race rely on title, tenure, or familiarity, Blair is earning support from leaders who recognize the urgency of this moment, the nuance, and strength of his candidacy.

“I’m honored to have Mayor Woodfin’s support and proud to be backed by leaders like Deval Patrick, Josh McLaurin, and Nina Turner,” said Dr. Everton Blair. “This campaign is about delivering the kind of leadership people can actually feel, leadership that shows up, tells the truth, and fights for affordability, opportunity, public education, and dignity. Georgia’s 13th District deserves nothing less.”

National progressive voice and former Ohio State Sen. Nina Turner said:

“Everton will fight for Medicare for all and will stand against war, prioritizing what our communities need instead of what the ultra-wealthy want.”

Georgia State Sen. Josh McLaurin, candidate for lieutenant governor of Georgia, said:

“Voters want a fighter who can break through the noise with composure and resolve. That’s Everton. It’s time for the next generation to lead.”

Blair’s campaign is making a clear case: this district does not need politics as usual. It needs a leader with new energy, real credibility, and the ability to build support across communities and across state lines. That is exactly why this coalition keeps growing.

About Dr. Everton Blair Jr.
Dr. Everton Blair Jr. is a lifelong resident of Georgia’s 13th Congressional District, born and raised in Gwinnett County to Jamaican immigrants. A former high school math teacher, he built his career as an educator and made history in 2018 as the first Black member and the youngest-ever member elected to the Gwinnett County Board of Education. Blair is running for Congress in Georgia’s 13th District to deliver people-powered leadership that puts working families ahead of corporate donors and political insiders. A community-first leader and organizer, he’s focused on lowering costs, protecting healthcare, defending civil rights, and building an economy that works for everyone, not just the well-connected. Blair supports Medicare for All and replacing ICE with an immigration system rooted in dignity, due process, and accountability. He has also been outspoken against Super PACs designed to drown out everyday people. If elected, Blair would become the first openly gay member of Congress from Georgia.

About Georgia’s 13th Congressional District

In a dramatic redistricting shift in 2023, Georgia’s 13th Congressional District moved north and east, picking up portions of Gwinnett, Rockdale, Newton, and DeKalb counties while maintaining swaths of Clayton and Henry counties. Major cities include: Stockbridge, Jonesboro, Conyers, Covington, Lilburn, Grayson, Lawrenceville, and Snellville. The district remains a Democratic stronghold with a heavily Black populace and voting base. Fast-growing counties like Gwinnett and Rockdale are places where Everton Blair has lived, served, and won.
