We are working harder, but making less. Costs are rising, infrastructure crumbling and our Congressman doesn’t seem to care. We deserve better.&nbsp; My family came to this country from Jamaica and worked hard to achieve the American Dream right here in Georgia’s 13th. Today, that dream is now impossible for many. Large corporations have snapped up homes that once belonged to families, pushing the promise of stable homeownership further out of reach. The good-paying jobs that remain are over an hour away, leaving residents dependent on long, costly commutes. Emerging data centers are draining enormous amounts of energy, driving up our utility bills and polluting our water. And, no matter your zip code, healthcare is increasingly unaffordable.&nbsp; Over time, corporations have quietly taken over the very pillars that once made our communities a place of hope and economic opportunity.&nbsp; We do not have to accept this. This moment is not simply about being against one person or one party. It is about recognizing that the status quo is not working and better is possible…if we fight for it. I’m running to fight. To fight for an economy that prioritizes people before profit. For stronger schools and safer communities. For affordable housing and healthcare as a human right. For free and fair elections. Son of Georgia.</h2>Born and raised in Gwinnett County, Georgia, Dr. Everton Blair Jr. is an educator, lifelong resident of Georgia’s 13th Congressional District, and a proud son of Jamaican immigrants who built their lives on faith, hard work, and community.As a student in Gwinnett County Public Schools, Everton saw how opportunity can be unevenly distributed. When his classmates had to share outdated textbooks, he bought new ones for the entire class, a quiet act that reflected a lifelong instinct: if something’s broken, you fix it. That instinct carried him into public service. After teaching high school math in Atlanta Public Schools, Everton served on the Gwinnett County School Board, where he quickly became Board Chair. His tenure was defined by transparency, collaboration, and results, as he governed one of the state’s most complex public systems through the COVID-19 pandemic with steadiness and integrity.Before serving locally, Everton worked on President Obama’s White House Initiative on Educational Excellence, training school leaders nationwide to govern with both courage and compassion. He holds a bachelor’s in applied mathematics (B.A.) and a Doctor of Education Leadership (Ed.L.D.) from Harvard University and a Master's in Policy, Organization, and Leadership (M.A.) from Stanford University.

<h2 style="text-align: center;">Serious, Proven Leadership</h2>Everton is not new to leading during crisis or across lines of difference. In 2018, he made history as the first person of color and the youngest-ever member elected to the Gwinnett County School Board. He entered office as the only Democrat and the youngest member by 40 years, but that did not stop him from fighting for the community that raised him. On day one, Everton went to work delivering for students, educators and families.He used his platform to recruit new school board candidates. They won and replaced two Republican seats on the board, creating a Democratic majority. Not long after, Everton was unanimously elected Board Chair by his Democrat and Republican colleagues. As Board Chair, Everton led the Metro Atlanta COVID-19 pandemic response, while successfully raising teacher pay, expanding student services, and overseeing the county's most historic superintendent transition. That's the kind of proven, effective leadership Everton will bring to Congress.

I’m the proud son of Jamaican immigrants who built their lives on faith, hard work, and community. Stories like my family's are only possible when our country welcomes immigrants. Today, the same American Dream my family pursued is impossible for many.Trump’s cruel and inhumane immigration agenda is not the answer. We have to stop treating the border as a theater for political stunts and start treating it as a complex legal and humanitarian responsibility. True security doesn't come from a wall; it comes from an efficient and well-resourced system. I’ll advocate for shifting our focus away from the militarized enforcement model of the last decade and toward a system that prioritizes the dignity of every person seeking a better life.<ul><li>Abolish ICE and return immigration to the Department of Justice instead of the Department of Homeland Security.</li><li>Expand a clear, earned pathway to citizenship for our neighbors who have lived, worked, and paid taxes here for years.</li><li>Codify permanent protections for DACA recipients and "Dreamers" who, like me, were raised in the promise of this country.</li><li>Modernize and reform our visa system to keep families together and expedite the immigration court process.</li></ul>

Trump’s cruel and inhumane immigration agenda is not the answer. The border should not be a theater for political stunts. We need a well-resourced, transparent, and efficient immigration system that prioritizes due process and human dignity.

Immigration

Elected officials are elected to serve the people, not billionaires and corporate donors. We must restore trust in our electoral system, and that starts by ensuring that public service is actually about service, not self-enrichment.<ul><li>Get Big Money Out of Politics: Overturn the U.S. Supreme Court's 2010 decision in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission, which allowed independent expenditure groups to contribute unlimited, unregulated amounts of money to candidates</li><li>Ban Congressional Stock Trading: Ban members of Congress and their families from trading individual stocks.</li></ul>

Democratic Reform

Everton Blair, former chairman of the Gwinnett County Board of Education, announces his candidacy for the United States House of Representatives in Georgia’s 13th Congressional District today. A lifelong resident of the redrawn district, Everton will bring new energy to Congress and be more visible and accessible to the people of the district. “I am running for Congress because it is time for the next generation to step up and correct the direction that this country is headed…” said Blair. “Change can’t wait, and Democrats need a new bench of leaders who are committed to solving real problems for regular, working people.” Blair has a strong background in public service. In 2018, he made history as the first Black and youngest-ever board chair and board member to be elected to the Gwinnett County Board of Education. As chairman of the board, he led the school district during the pandemic – overseeing the district’s superintendent transition, budget expansion, COVID-19 response and annual reaccreditation. Before the board, he taught high school math in Atlanta Public Schools, coached superintendents across the country and served as a Policy Fellow in President Obama's White House Initiative on Educational Excellence. After his board service, he went to complete a doctorate at Harvard University in Education Leadership with a focus on government and civic partnerships. Blair also holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Mathematics from Harvard College and a Master’s Degree in Policy and Organizational Leadership from Stanford University. “With so much falling apart under this administration, we need more representatives who are in touch with reality and have the courage to fight for our future. The leaders who got us into this mess are not the ones that are going to get us out of it. ” said Blair. “I am asking for your support so that I can fight for you and your family in Washington.” The 13th Congressional District is a diverse district that includes all or portions of Clayton, Dekalb, Gwinnett, Henry, Newton and Rockdale counties. The district is currently represented by David Scott, a 79-year-old Democrat who has served in elected office for 50 years and recently lost his ranking seniority. In Congress, I would oppose the sweeping overreach of the NRA and an fight for common sense gun reform. As an educator, I saw the fear and trauma that gun violence inflicts on our children. During my time as School Board Chair, we strengthened our gun safety protocols in Gwinnett and created task forces at each school for safe schools implementation.&nbsp;We must treat gun violence as the public health crisis it is and invest in prevention, especially community-based approaches that actually save lives. <ul><li>Universal Background Checks: Mandate universal background checks for all gun sales, including private sales and gun shows</li><li>Ban High-Capacity Weapons: Prohibit assault weapons and devices that convert firearms into machine guns.</li><li>Safety &amp; Licensing: Require a 10-day waiting period, mandatory safety training, safe storage, and the prohibition of Prohibit a person subject to a temporary domestic violence restraining order from having a gun for the duration of the order.</li><li>Red-flag Laws: Strengthen red-flag laws to keep weapons out of the hands of those who are a clear danger to themselves or others.&nbsp;</li><li></li><li>Gun-Free Zones: Maintain gun-free zones in public spaces such as schools, hospitals,public lands, and government buildings</li></ul>

GWINNETT COUNTY, GA — The Everton Blair for Congress campaign today announced commanding fourth-quarter fundraising results, raising $120,943.12 in Q4 and reporting $463,087.28 in total cycle contributions, out-raising every candidate in this race and leading the entire field in contributions for the cycle. Since the close of the quarter, the campaign has accelerated even further, pushing cycle-to-date fundraising past $500,000. Our momentum is real, not manufactured. We’re powered by a broad base of real people ready for change, not special interests or self-funded loans. We are not trying to buy this election with personal wealth. We are building a winning operation with a true base of support. “This is what it looks like when everyday people, not special interests, decide they are done waiting for change. We know that we will not defeat this authoritarian regime without stronger Democratic leaders in Congress. Time is up,” said Dr. Everton Blair, candidate for Congress in Georgia’s 13th District. “This campaign is about building power right here at home, reminding people that stronger representation is possible if we fight for it. The district remains a Democratic stronghold with a heavily Black populace and voting base. Voting Rights

As a lifelong student and educator, I believe strong schools are the bedrock for strong communities. Every child should have access to quality education and career pathways no matter their zip code. We must recenter and reinvest in public education to make stronger schools the engine for stronger communities, and ultimately restore America’s presence on the global stage as a responsible world leader.<ul><li>Title I Investment: Secure massive federal investment to ensure every child has access to modern technology and safe facilities</li><li>Raise Teacher Pay: Incentivize states to establish a $60,000 minimum starting salary for all public school teachers by supporting the American Teacher Act (introduced by Rep. Frederica Wilson).</li><li>Workforce Development &amp; Job Training: Partner with federal agencies, local governments, and educational institutions to build job training pipelines that connect residents to high-wage, high-growth industries.</li><li>Restore the Department of Education: Fight for the reconstruction of&nbsp; the Department of Education and its capacity to support students, teachers and school administrators across our country.</li><li>Counseling Not Criminalization: Shift federal incentives away from school policing and toward restorative justice and counselors.</li><li>Protect Public Schools: Oppose federal funding for privately run charter schools to ensure public funds stay in public classrooms.</li></ul>

We must do what we should have done long ago: codify reproductive freedom. <ul><li>Pass the Women’s Health Protection Act to codify Roe v Wade and restore nationwide protections&nbsp;</li><li>Repeal the Hyde Amendment so that people can use publicly funded insurance to pay for abortions&nbsp;</li><li>Protect access to contraception and fertility care, including IVF</li><li>Pass the Right to Contraception Act to codify the right to contraception for all</li></ul>

Reproductive freedom is under a continued coordinated, authoritarian attack that threatens the health and bodily autonomy of every American. In Congress, I will be a fierce defender of reproductive rights, and fight to do what we should have done long ago: codify reproductive freedom.

Reproductive Freedom

Workers and unions are the the backbone of our economy. Every worker deserves a living wage, the freedom to organize, and a safe work environment. In addition to expanding paid family leave, job training, and workforce development, I will fight to protect and strengthen workplace safety and the right to organize.<ul><li>Raise the Minimum Wage: Pass the Raise the Wage Act (introduced by Rep. Bobby Scott and Sen. Bernie Sanders) to finally increase the federal minimum wage to $15 an hour.</li><li>Pass the PRO Act: Pass the Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act (introduced by Rep. Bobby Scott and Sen. Bernie Sanders) to repeal anti-worker laws and protect the right to strike.</li><li>Workplace Protections: Guarantee every worker the right to water, rest, and bathroom breaks and support the BE HEARD in the Workplace Act (introduced by Rep. Ayanna Pressley and Sen. Patty Murray) to increase protections against discrimination and harassment for all workers.</li><li>Federal Jobs Guarantee: Support a Federal Jobs Guarantee to ensure every American adult has the right to employment with fair benefits.</li><li>Responsible AI &amp; Worker Protection: Regulate AI safety and support a worker transition fund for those displaced by automation.</li></ul>

Raising a family should not be a crippling financial burden. I am committed to investing in an affordable care economy that supports working families and care workers at every stage of life. This includes child care subsidies, advanced child tax credits, affordable elder care, and expanded paid family leave.No one should have to choose between earning a paycheck and caring for their children or a loved one.<ul><li>Universal Child Care: Fight for the Child Care for Every Community Act (introduced by Sen. Elizabeth Warren and Rep. Mikie Sherrill) to ensure high-quality childcare is a universal benefit.</li><li>Paid Family &amp; Medical Leave: Pass the FAMILY Act (introduced by Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand and Rep. Rosa DeLauro) and the Healthy Families Act (introduced by Sen. Patty Murray and Rep. Rosa DeLauro) for national paid leave and sick day standards.</li><li>Restore the Expanded Child Tax Credit: Make the Child Tax Credit fully refundable and permanent with regular monthly payments to provide immediate relief for working parents.</li><li>Affordable Elder Care: Expand Medicaid to include comprehensive home- and community-based services (HCBS) so seniors can stay comfortable and still receive care.</li><li>Support &amp; Pay Care Workers: Support the Better Care Better Jobs Act (introduced by Sen. Bob Casey and Rep. Debbie Dingell) to improve care services while ensuring care workers receive living wages and strong benefits.</li></ul>

No one should have to choose between earning a paycheck and caring for their children or loved ones. I will fight for an affordable care economy that supports working families and care workers at every stage of life.
