We are working harder, but making less. Costs are rising, infrastructure crumbling and our Congressman doesn’t seem to care. We deserve better.&nbsp; My family came to this country from Jamaica and worked hard to achieve the American Dream right here in Georgia’s 13th. Today, that dream is now impossible for many. Large corporations have snapped up homes that once belonged to families, pushing the promise of stable homeownership further out of reach. The good-paying jobs that remain are over an hour away, leaving residents dependent on long, costly commutes. Emerging data centers are draining enormous amounts of energy, driving up our utility bills and polluting our water. And, no matter your zip code, healthcare is increasingly unaffordable.&nbsp; Over time, corporations have quietly taken over the very pillars that once made our communities a place of hope and economic opportunity.&nbsp; We do not have to accept this. This moment is not simply about being against one person or one party. It is about recognizing that the status quo is not working and better is possible…if we fight for it. I’m running to fight. To fight for an economy that prioritizes people before profit. For stronger schools and safer communities. For affordable housing and healthcare as a human right. For free and fair elections. Son of Georgia.</h2>Born and raised in Gwinnett County, Georgia, Dr. Everton Blair Jr. is an educator, lifelong resident of Georgia’s 13th Congressional District, and a proud son of Jamaican immigrants who built their lives on faith, hard work, and community.As a student in Gwinnett County Public Schools, Everton saw how opportunity can be unevenly distributed. When his classmates had to share outdated textbooks, he bought new ones for the entire class, a quiet act that reflected a lifelong instinct: if something’s broken, you fix it. That instinct carried him into public service. After teaching high school math in Atlanta Public Schools, Everton served on the Gwinnett County School Board, where he quickly became Board Chair. His tenure was defined by transparency, collaboration, and results, as he governed one of the state’s most complex public systems through the COVID-19 pandemic with steadiness and integrity.Before serving locally, Everton worked on President Obama’s White House Initiative on Educational Excellence, training school leaders nationwide to govern with both courage and compassion. He holds a bachelor’s in applied mathematics (B.A.) and a Doctor of Education Leadership (Ed.L.D.) from Harvard University and a Master's in Policy, Organization, and Leadership (M.A.) from Stanford University.

<h2 style="text-align: center;">Serious, Proven Leadership</h2>Everton is not new to leading during crisis or across lines of difference. In 2018, he made history as the first person of color and the youngest-ever member elected to the Gwinnett County School Board. He entered office as the only Democrat and the youngest member by 40 years, but that did not stop him from fighting for the community that raised him. On day one, Everton went to work delivering for students, educators and families.He used his platform to recruit new school board candidates. They won and replaced two Republican seats on the board, creating a Democratic majority. Not long after, Everton was unanimously elected Board Chair by his Democrat and Republican colleagues. As Board Chair, Everton led the Metro Atlanta COVID-19 pandemic response, while successfully raising teacher pay, expanding student services, and overseeing the county's most historic superintendent transition. That's the kind of proven, effective leadership Everton will bring to Congress.

I’m the proud son of Jamaican immigrants who built their lives on faith, hard work, and community. Stories like my family's are only possible when our country welcomes immigrants. Today, the same American Dream my family pursued is impossible for many.Trump’s cruel and inhumane immigration agenda has worsened the crisis. We have to stop treating the border as a theater for political stunts and start treating it as a complex legal and humanitarian responsibility. True security doesn't come from a wall; it comes from an efficient and well-resourced system. I’ll advocate for shifting our focus away from the militarized enforcement model of the last decade and toward a system that prioritizes the dignity of every person seeking a better life.<ul><li>Abolish ICE and return immigration to the Department of Justice instead of the Department of Homeland Security.</li><li>Expand a clear, earned pathway to citizenship for our neighbors who have lived, worked, and paid taxes here for years.</li><li>Codify permanent protections for DACA recipients and "Dreamers" who, like me, were raised in the promise of this country.</li><li>Modernize and reform our visa system to keep families together and expedite the immigration court process.</li></ul>

Our immigration system is broken, and Trump’s cruel and inhumane immigration agenda made it worse. We need a well-resourced, transparent, and efficient immigration system that prioritizes due process and human dignity.

Immigration

If elected, I will be Georgia's first LGBTQ+ member of Congress and the first openly Black gay member of Congress from the South.I will be the strongest advocate for LGBTQ+ rights, because the fight is deeply personal for me. I believe every person deserves to live and love with dignity. Identity should never be a barrier to respect, healthcare, or opportunity.<ul><li>Strengthen and expand civil rights laws so that no one is denied housing, employment, education, or healthcare because of their identity or who they love.</li><li>Ensure that every person can access medically necessary care, including gender-affirming treatments, HIV prevention and care like PrEP and PEP, mental health services, and inclusive reproductive healthcare.</li><li>Protect students from bullying and discrimination and support educators and polices that reflect the dignity of all young people. </li><li>Champion fair hiring practices, support LGBTQ-owned small businesses, and enforce equal pay for equal work.</li><li>Expand funding for hate crime prevention, hate crime reporting and victim services.</li><li>Invest in safe public spaces, community centers, and neighborhood programs that support queer youth, elders, and families. </li></ul>

As Georgia's first LGBTQ+ member of Congress and the first openly Black gay member of Congress from the South, I will be a strong fighter for LGBTQ+ rights. Identity should never be a barrier to respect, love, healthcare, or opportunity.

LGBTQ+ Rights

Elected officials are elected by and for the people, not billionaires and corporate donors. We must restore trust in our democracy.That means passing strong federal voting rights legislation, stopping voter suppression in all its forms, and getting big money out of politics.<ul><li>Overturn Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission, the U.S. Supreme Court's 2010 decision, which allowed independent expenditure groups to contribute unlimited, unregulated amounts of money to candidates.</li><li>Ban Congressional Stock Trading to prohibit Congress and their families from trading individual stocks.</li><li>Pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act to restore and protect the power of the Voting Rights Act.</li><li>Pass The Freedom to Vote Act to end partisan gerrymandering and stop dark money from drowning out our voices.</li><li>Expand early voting and mail-in access, make election day a national holiday, and support other measures that make it easier for you to register to vote and cast your ballot.</li></ul>

Everton Blair, former chairman of the Gwinnett County Board of Education, announces his candidacy for the United States House of Representatives in Georgia’s 13th Congressional District today. A lifelong resident of the redrawn district, Everton will bring new energy to Congress and be more visible and accessible to the people of the district. “I am running for Congress because it is time for the next generation to step up and correct the direction that this country is headed…” said Blair. “Change can’t wait, and Democrats need a new bench of leaders who are committed to solving real problems for regular, working people.” Blair has a strong background in public service. In 2018, he made history as the first Black and youngest-ever board chair and board member to be elected to the Gwinnett County Board of Education. As chairman of the board, he led the school district during the pandemic – overseeing the district’s superintendent transition, budget expansion, COVID-19 response and annual reaccreditation. Before the board, he taught high school math in Atlanta Public Schools, coached superintendents across the country and served as a Policy Fellow in President Obama's White House Initiative on Educational Excellence. After his board service, he went to complete a doctorate at Harvard University in Education Leadership with a focus on government and civic partnerships. Blair also holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Mathematics from Harvard College and a Master’s Degree in Policy and Organizational Leadership from Stanford University. “With so much falling apart under this administration, we need more representatives who are in touch with reality and have the courage to fight for our future. The leaders who got us into this mess are not the ones that are going to get us out of it. ” said Blair. “I am asking for your support so that I can fight for you and your family in Washington.” The 13th Congressional District is a diverse district that includes all or portions of Clayton, Dekalb, Gwinnett, Henry, Newton and Rockdale counties. The district is currently represented by David Scott, a 79-year-old Democrat who has served in elected office for 50 years and recently lost his ranking seniority. As an educator, I saw the fear and trauma that gun violence inflicts on our children. During my time as School Board Chair, we strengthened our gun safety protocols in Gwinnett and created task forces at each school for safe schools implementation.&nbsp;In Congress, I would oppose the sweeping overreach of the NRA and an fight for common sense gun reform. We must treat gun violence as the public health crisis it is and invest in prevention, especially community-based approaches that actually save lives.<ul><li>Mandate universal background checks for all gun sales, including private sales and gun shows.</li><li>Strengthen red-flag laws to keep weapons out of the hands of those who are a clear danger to themselves or others.&nbsp;</li><li>Maintain gun-free zones in public spaces such as schools, hospitals, public lands, and government buildings.</li><li>Ban High-Capacity Weapons: Prohibit assault weapons and devices that convert firearms into machine guns.</li><li>Safety &amp; Licensing: Require a 10-day waiting period, mandatory safety training, and safe storage.</li></ul>

Since the close of the quarter, the campaign has accelerated even further, pushing cycle-to-date fundraising past $500,000. Our momentum is real, not manufactured. As a lifelong student and educator, I believe strong schools form the bedrock of strong communities. Every child should have access to quality education and career pathways no matter their zip code.We must re-center and reinvest in public education to make stronger schools the engine for stronger communities, and ultimately restore America’s presence on the global stage as a responsible world leader.<ul><li>Raise teacher pay, expand professional development, and strengthen the support systems for paraprofessionals, counselors, and administrators who make learning possible.</li><li>Secure increased federal investment for our Title 1 schools to ensure every child has access to modern technology and safe facilities.</li><li>Expand federal investment in Head Start and universal pre-K programs to strengthen vital early learning resources for all children.</li><li>Fight for the reconstruction of the Department of Education and its capacity to support students, teachers and school administrators across our country.</li><li>Workforce Development &amp; Job Training: Partner with federal agencies, trade unions, local governments, and educational institutions to build job training pipelines that connect people to high-wage, high-growth industries.</li><li>Counseling Not Criminalization: Shift federal incentives away from school policing and toward restorative justice and counselors.</li><li>Protect Public Schools: Oppose federal funding for privately run charter schools to ensure public funds stay in public classrooms.</li><li>College for All &amp; Student Loan Forgiveness: Fight for comprehensive student loan forgiveness and support free tuition at public colleges and universities.</li></ul>

As a math teacher, Everton knows that the future belongs to the students and workers who can harness new tools. Technologies like artificial intelligence and blockchain have real potential to make government more transparent, classrooms more effective, and everyday life more affordable. But only if we write rules and regulations that work for everyone. Right now, too many communities in GA-13 are on the wrong side of the digital divide. Without reliable broadband. Without digital literacy resources. Without a voice when algorithms make decisions about their loans, their jobs, or their children’s education. In Congress, Everton will fight for clear federal standards that protect consumers from AI-driven discrimination, safeguard workers from displacement without retraining, and ensure new technologies serve communities, not just shareholders. As Gwinnett School Board Chair, he led efforts to expand technology access for students and modernize how families interact with their schools. He’ll bring that same hands-on approach to Washington: champion innovation that closes gaps instead of widening them, and make sure the people building the future actually get to live in it.

Technology & Innovation

Every person deserves the right to make their own healthcare decisions without politicians standing in the way. Across Georgia and here in the 13th District, that freedom is under attack. Georgia’s six-week abortion ban has forced patients, families, and doctors into impossible situations. It has turned what should be private medical decisions into a public battle.<ul><li>Pass the Women’s Health Protection Act to codify Roe v Wade and restore nationwide protections.&nbsp;</li><li>Protect access to fertility care, including IVF.</li><li>Pass the Right to Contraception Act codifying the right to contraception for all.</li><li>Repeal the Hyde Amendment to prevent discriminatory insurance exclusions in reproductive healthcare.&nbsp;</li><li>Protect doctors and patients from criminalization to guarantee no healthcare provider or patient faces punishment for seeking or offering medically necessary care.</li><li>Ensure equity in care by expanding maternal and reproductive health programs that address racial disparities and improve outcomes for Black and Brown families.</li><li>Require transparency on pregnancy-related deaths and delayed care so that no life is lost without accountability and no family’s pain goes unseen.</li></ul>

I will be a fierce defender of reproductive freedom. The health and bodily autonomy of every American is under a coordinated, authoritarian attack. We must do what we should have done long ago: codify reproductive rights.
