Local Gwinnett Leaders Endorse Everton Blair for Congress in Georgia’s 13th District

Gwinnett elected officials cite proven results, community-centered leadership, and a record of delivery

GWINNETT COUNTY, GA – Today, fresh off qualifying on Day One, alongside Georgia leaders and candidates, Dr. Everton Blair reinforced his standing in a crowded GA-13 primary as the only candidate endorsed by two former GA-13 candidates. Blair also announced new endorsements from respected Gwinnett County leaders, accelerating the momentum behind his campaign for Congress in Georgia’s 13th.

Adrienne Simmons, Vice Chair of the Gwinnett County Board of Education representing District IV, highlighted Blair’s record of results and coalition leadership:

“Dr. Blair’s leadership is rooted in effective service and results. He didn’t just talk about improving student outcomes; he did the work and brought people together to move our schools forward. I’m honored to endorse him for Congress, and I’m proud to have been recruited by Dr. Blair to continue that work as his successor on the School Board. GA-13 deserves that same values-driven, community-centered, people-driven leadership in Washington.”

Gwinnett County Commissioner Kirkland Carden emphasized Blair’s readiness to lead for working families:

“I am proud to endorse Everton Blair for Congress. As the voice of a new generation of progressive leadership, Everton exemplifies the spirit of service and dedication our community needs. His leadership during Metro Atlanta’s COVID response, alongside his vital initiatives to raise teacher pay and expand student services, demonstrate his commitment to real progress. Everton is ready to listen first, lead boldly, and deliver results for the working families of GA-13.”

Tarece Johnson, School Board Chair, underscored Blair’s values-driven leadership and record of delivery:

“Dr. Everton Blair is a proven, steady leader who leads with values, courage, and a clear focus on the people he serves. In moments that demanded real leadership, he showed up, built consensus, and delivered results, by listening first and then acting. He understands what families in Gwinnett and across GA-13 need because he’s been in the work, fighting for stronger schools, safer communities, and smarter investments that make life better for working families. I’m proud to endorse him for Congress because Washington needs leaders who put students, working families, and communities first. Dr. Blair will champion opportunity and equity while delivering real results.”

Shelly Hutchinson, Former Georgia State Representative, (HD 107; redistricted to 106), stating that Blair is a leader who can deliver:

“I’m proud to endorse Dr. Everton Blair. I first met Everton when he was running for school board in Gwinnett County, and he’s been a phenomenal—almost a phenom—leader ever since. Even though he’s younger than me, I look up to him because when he speaks, he’s usually right. At a time when nobody on either side of the aisle is happy with where the government is, we need a fresh face with great ideas, someone who can work with anybody, recognize what’s wrong, and fix it. Change can’t wait and Everton Blair is the leader to deliver it.”

Blair welcomed the endorsements and underscored the stakes for families across the district:

“I’m grateful for the support of Vice Chair Simmons, Commissioner Carden, Chair Johnson, and Former State Rep. Hutchinson, leaders who know what it means to deliver for people. In Congress, I’ll fight for affordable healthcare, good-paying jobs, strong public schools, and an economy that works for all people and the working families across GA-13,” said Dr. Everton Blair.

About Dr. Everton Blair Jr.
Dr. Everton Blair Jr. is a lifelong resident of Georgia’s 13th Congressional District, born and raised in Gwinnett County to Jamaican immigrants. A former high school math teacher, he built his career as an educator and made history in 2018 as the first Black member and the youngest-ever member elected to the Gwinnett County Board of Education. Blair is running for Congress in Georgia’s 13th District to deliver people-powered leadership that puts working families ahead of corporate donors and political insiders. A community-first leader and organizer, he’s focused on lowering costs, protecting healthcare, defending civil rights, and building an economy that works for everyone, not just the well-connected. Blair supports Medicare for All and replacing ICE with an immigration system rooted in dignity, due process, and accountability. He has also been outspoken against Super PACs designed to drown out everyday people. If elected, Blair would become the first openly gay member of Congress from Georgia.

About Georgia’s 13th Congressional District

In a dramatic redistricting shift in 2023, Georgia’s 13th Congressional District moved north and east, picking up portions of Gwinnett, Rockdale, Newton, and DeKalb counties while maintaining swaths of Clayton and Henry counties. Major cities include: Stockbridge, Jonesboro, Conyers, Covington, Lilburn, Grayson, Lawrenceville, and Snellville. The district remains a Democratic stronghold with a heavily Black populace and voting base. Fast-growing counties like Gwinnett and Rockdale are places where Everton Blair has lived, served, and won.
